Custom Fabricated Metal Gratings Engineered to Specification
Omkar Gratings specializes in custom-welded, handmade gratings manufactured from structural grade mild steel, austenitic stainless steel (AISI 304, AISI 316), and structural aluminum alloys. When standard catalog panels cannot accommodate complex structural layouts, our custom fabrication line builds panels precisely to your CAD drawings and general arrangement plans.
Every custom grating is engineered with full consideration of load dynamics, span deflection, and environmental corrosion. Panels are fabricated with complex circular or square pipe penetrations, cut-outs, kick plates, and full perimeter banding to ensure structural continuity and maximum safety for heavy industrial access platforms, catwalks, and trench channels.
- Fabrication widths from 250 mm up to 1200 mm with flexible length spans
- Internal and perimeter cut-outs completely reinforced with edge banding
- High-integrity manual and semi-automatic welding conforming to international structural codes
- Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A123 / EN ISO 1461 for long-term corrosion immunity
Standard & Custom Duty Classifications
Our welded bar gratings are grouped into four standardized duty categories to support requirements ranging from light architectural platforms to extreme heavy-duty industrial loading.
| Duty Rating | Bearing Bar Dimensions | Primary Material Options | Design Load Profiles | Typical Global Applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Duty | 25 x 3 mm | Mild Steel, SS 304, Aluminum | Pedestrian traffic (up to 3.0 kN/m² uniformly distributed) | Inspection catwalks, elevated stair landings, light walkways |
| Medium Duty | 30 x 3 mm & 30 x 5 mm | Mild Steel, SS 304 / 316 | Standard industrial access (5.0 kN/m² to 7.5 kN/m²) | Boiler structures, refinery walkways, water plant access floors |
| Heavy Duty | 40 x 5 mm & 65 x 5 mm | High-Tensile Mild Steel, SS 316 | Rolling vehicular loads, heavy maintenance equipment, forklifts | Loading docks, warehouse access bays, drainage trench covers |
| Extra Heavy Duty | Up to 200 x 20 mm | Structural Steel Q235 / ASTM A36 | Extra-heavy point loads, commercial aircraft & container traffic | Airfield aprons, sea ports, mining haul truck runoffs, heavy culverts |
Built for Demanding Industrial Operating Conditions
Every welded grating panel undergoes rigorous fabrication procedures to guarantee dimensional accuracy, joint strength, and protective surface performance.
Custom Cut-Outs & Penetrations
Pipe penetrations, column sleeves, and angular notchings are plasma cut and reinforced with heavy perimeter banding for maximum torsional stability.
Hot-Dip Galvanizing
Coated in accordance with ASTM A123 / ISO 1461, providing zinc thicknesses of 610 g/m² or higher for uncompromised outdoor corrosion protection.
Strict QA & Tolerances
Fabrication tolerances adhere to NAAMM MBG 531 and BS 4592, with comprehensive dimensional, squareness, and weld integrity inspection reports.
Export Sea-Freight Packaging
Panels are piece-marked against engineering layout drawings, bundled with steel strapping, and packaged on timber pallets for damage-free transit.
Procurement & Technical Clarifications
What are the standard fabrication tolerances for custom welded gratings?
Our manufacturing conforms strictly to NAAMM MBG 531, BS 4592, and AS 1657 standards. Standard dimensional tolerances are held within ±3 mm for panel width and length, with diagonal variance maintained under 5 mm. Cross bar alignment and bearing bar squareness are monitored via calibrated laser fixtures to ensure clean fit-up during site erection.
How are non-standard penetrations and pipe cut-outs reinforced?
Whenever bearing bars are severed to accommodate structural columns, piping, or valve operations, a continuous banding flat bar equal to or greater than the bearing bar depth is welded around the cut perimeter. This redistributes concentrated loads to adjacent uninterrupted bars, preventing localized deflection.
Which load classes are available for custom welded grating panels?
We fabricate four distinct classes: Light Duty (25 x 3 mm bars), Medium Duty (30 x 3 mm and 30 x 5 mm bars), Heavy Duty (40 x 5 mm to 65 x 5 mm bars), and Extra Heavy Duty (up to 200 x 20 mm bars). Our technical sales team provides load deflection tables to assist EPC contractors in selecting optimal bar spacing and section depths.
What surface finishes and protective coatings are applied?
Carbon steel gratings are commonly supplied hot-dip galvanized per EN ISO 1461 or ASTM A123. Stainless steel panels are chemically descaled, passivated, and electro-polished. Aluminum gratings can be furnished in raw mill finish or with architectural clear/bronze anodization or powder coating as specified by the project engineer.
